Demand to Include Automobiles, Sustainable Roads, and Safe Transportation in Election Manifestos and Policy Programs

As Nepal stands at the threshold of a major general election, political parties have begun unveiling their commitments through their respective election manifestos. While numerous agendas are being presented, critical public concerns such as automobile development, sustainable road infrastructure, and safe transportation have often remained underrepresented.

In this context, the Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA Nepal), in collaboration with National Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Mobility–Nepal and Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal, has formally submitted a comprehensive recommendation memorandum to major political parties of Nepal. The memorandum represents the collective voice of organizations, victim families, experts, media professionals, campaigners, and members of the Nepali professional community worldwide who are directly and indirectly engaged in the fields of automobiles, road safety, and sustainable mobility.

The recommendations were submitted to major political parties including Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), Rastriya Swatantra Party, Communist Party of Nepal, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party. Likewise, the memorandum was also presented to Ujyalo Nepal Party, Progressive Democratic Party, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal.

The memorandum emphasizes the inclusion of key national priorities such as:

  • The right to safe and fearless mobility

  • The right to health and consumer protection

  • Safe, systematic, and reliable public transportation

  • Implementation of UN road safety conventions

  • Passage and enforcement of pending transport-related laws and regulations

  • Enactment of a Road Safety Act

  • Formation of a Road Safety Council

  • Systematic management of International Driving Permits

We firmly believe that these issues are fundamental pillars for building a prosperous, civilized, and modern Nepal.

During the submission, spokesperson of Nepali Congress, Dev Raj Chalise; Vice-Chair of Rastriya Swatantra Party, DP Aryal; and Vice-Chair of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), Ram Bahadur Thapa, among others, acknowledged the importance of these agendas and expressed their commitment to incorporate them into their respective party manifestos.

NASA Nepal remains committed to advocating for safe, sustainable, and forward-looking mobility policies that prioritize public safety, environmental sustainability, and national development.
