Youth for Road Safety Campaign Launched in Sudurpaschim to Strengthen Youth Leadership in Road Safety

With the aim of promoting active youth participation and leadership in road safety, the “Youth for Road Safety” campaign has been officially launched in Sudurpaschim Province.

The first province-level program under the ‘Voice of the Youth for Safe and Sustainable Mobility’ initiative saw the participation of around 60 young campaigners, riders, athletes, entrepreneurs, and students from engineering, management, and tourism streams.

Organized by the Sudurpaschim Automobiles Association in coordination with the Sudurpaschim Province Youth Council and the Provincial Sports Council, and supported by the Nepal Automobiles Association (NASA Nepal), the event was chaired by Association President Pushkar Ojha. The program was jointly inaugurated by Gajendra Saud, Executive Vice-President of the Sudurpaschim Province Youth Council, and Lal Bahadur Khadka, Secretary of the Provincial Sports Council.

Speakers from various sectors, including Prakash Chand, Secretary of Kailali Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Trilok Pandey, President of Karate Federation Sudurpaschim, and others, shared their insights during the event.

Kiran Dhital, Coordinator of Youth for Road Safety in Nepal, delivered a presentation on “The Need and Importance of Youth Voices in Road Safety,” highlighting the current road safety situation in Sudurpaschim, the role of youth, leadership dynamics, and collaboration with government bodies. Anil Baral, Vice President of NASA Nepal, presented on motorsports and road safety, stressing that meaningful improvement in road safety is impossible without the involvement of athletes and the youth community. Executive Vice President Gajendra Saud expressed the Youth Council’s commitment to mobilizing youth for improving road safety in the province and emphasized readiness to collaborate with NASA Nepal.

Member Secretary Lal Bahadur Khadka of the Provincial Sports Council stated that “a road safety campaign through athletes is an exceptionally meaningful initiative,” reaffirming continuous cooperation with Youth for Road Safety in Nepal.

At the end of the program, participants formed a ‘Road Safety Working Group’, which plans to lead a safe mobility campaign across Sudurpaschim Province. The group’s coordinator, Trilok Pandey, committed to advancing initiatives such as Star Rating for Schools, Road Safety Motivator Training, online road safety courses, and policy advocacy.

Facilitated by Govinda Bhattarai, Executive Director of NASA Nepal, and supported by Yamaha Racing Nepal, the program saw participation from youths representing all eight districts of Sudurpaschim as well as Karnali Province.

This initiative is part of the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Support Project, conducted nationwide in collaboration with the FIA Foundation, NASA Foundation, and Motoring Nepal.
